Meet Steve Komphela
Steve Komphela is a South African football manager and former footballer. He is the former manager of Maritzburg United, and former coach of the Kaizer Chiefs.
Steve Komphela was born in Golden Valley Farm, just outside of Kroonstad. Enjoying soccer from an early age, Steve decided to get an education, studying for a teacher’s diploma while continuing to grow his love for the beautiful game. In 1986 he made his debut in the NSL for Klerksdorp City against Witbank Aces. He went on to become the NSL Player’s Player of the year in 1992. Shortly afterwards he joined Kaizer Chiefs, playing 34 league games before moving to overseas outfit Gaziantepspor. He retired as a player in 1997 and went on to inspiring people through his life
orientation skills as well as hosting his own talk show on television. He began his coaching career with Manning Rangers in 2002 and has not looked back since. He has coached at Dynamos, Maritzburg United, Free State Stars, Platinum Stars, as well as most recently Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic. During his coaching career Steve has also been at the helm of the South African U20’s, U23’s as well as Bafana Bafana as a caretaker coach in 2012.
