Meet Nkateko Khoza

Nkateko Khoza is an MBA and BCom Graduate with majors in Information Systems, Accounting and Economics.

Nkateko began her career in 1999 as a graduate trainee at BMW South Africa, where she advanced to the roles of Business Analyst and Junior Project Manager. She further honed her project management and business analysis expertise at EDS, managing projects for the Nedbank Customer Care Centre Account.

In 2002, she joined Barloworld Information Systems and AVIS Car Rental, where she successfully led the implementation of various CRM and ERP systems. Her strategic capabilities led her to a consulting role in 2006 at the Gauteng Shared Services Centre, where she served as the Lead Account Director. In this role, she was responsible for programme management and business development within the Gauteng Provincial Contact Centre, working with a consortium of outsourcing service providers to grow the contact centre’s service offering across all government departments.

In 2009, she was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the preferred contact centre service provider to the Gauteng Province during its full outsourcing transition. Her mandate included driving transformation and providing leadership across multiple functional areas, including ICT, Human Resources, Operations, CRM, Stakeholder Management, and Programme & Project Management.

She later joined Ubulungisa Operations, a Public-Private Partnership Special Purpose Vehicle, in a 10-month engagement focused on Financial Management services for the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development’s Third-Party Funds (TPF).

In 2011, Nkateko became an Associate Director at Deloitte Consulting, where she played a pivotal role in business development and client service within the Business Process Solutions and Outsourcing team. Her focus was on expanding Deloitte’s public sector presence within SETAs and key metropolitan municipalities—Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni.

Following her tenure at Deloitte, in 2014 Nkateko co-founded Dzana Investments, a Family Office investment holding company, where she serves as Chief Executive Officer. The company has diversified interests in commercial property, renewable energy, private equity, and other strategic sectors. She also partnered with Flanagan & Gerard Property Development & Investment to pursue joint ventures in rural retail and mixed-use property development, thereby deepening her expertise in property development.

In addition to her role at Dzana, Nkateko oversees the family’s hospitality and agricultural ventures in Gauteng and Mpumalanga. In 2016, she co-founded Hlayisani Capital, a private equity and venture capital firm that invests in high-growth businesses across Sub- Saharan Africa, focused on catalysing socio-economic transformation and global competitiveness.

Nkateko has served for seven years on the board of Italtile, where she chaired the Group Social and Ethics Committee, was a member of the Audit and Risk Committee, and a Trustee of the Italtile and Ceramic Foundation Trust.

She is the Chairperson of the National Mentorship Movement, a non-profit organization championing mentorship as a driver of youth development and empowerment. She also sits on the Board of Endeavor South Africa, a global high-impact entrepreneurship platform, where she contributes to scaling local entrepreneurial ventures into globally competitive enterprises.

In 2021, Nkateko was appointed a Non-Executive Director of Flanagan & Gerard, where she also chairs the Social and Ethics Committee. Reflecting her deep commitment to the arts and social cohesion, she serves as Chairperson of the Board of Mzansi Ballet NPC, working to make ballet more accessible and to use it as a platform for community development.

Nkateko has shown strong commitment to rural development, youth entrepreneurship, women-led businesses, and social upliftment. Since 2012, she has been involved in rural commercial property development and mixed-use projects. She is currently working on a development in collaboration with the Mpumalanga Provincial Government and Bushbuckridge Municipality. She has also contributed to projects in Venda, Thohoyandou, and partnered with Flanagan & Gerard Development and Investment on other initiatives.

In agriculture, Nkateko has played a key role in the family’s farming, packing, and export business since 2007, focusing on avocado and macadamia production. This venture has generated about 500 jobs during peak seasons. Additionally, Nkateko’s involvement in the hospitality sector dates back to 2009, growing the family business from a single establishment to a sizeable portfolio including a concession in Kruger Park since 2002. This hospitality enterprise employs nearly 150 staff, predominantly women, and creates many indirect opportunities in tourism and related industries.
