Nqaba Songezo Mabece is a distinguished legal professional with an impressive academic and professional trajectory that underscores his expertise in competition law, public procurement, and corporate governance. His commitment to excellence and strategic insight has enabled him to excel across various high profile roles in both the public and private sectors. With a proven track record in leading innovative projects, shaping policies, and advising on complex legal matters, Nqaba has established himself as a visionary leader in his field.
Currently pursuing an LLM in Government Procurement Law at George Washington University as a Justice Thomas Buergenthal Scholar, Songezo brings a wealth of academic knowledge to his practical experience. He also holds an LLM in International Trade Law from Stellenbosch University and an LLB (Honours) from the University of Fort Hare. His dedication to lifelong learning is reflected in his participation in several prestigious short courses, including “The Next Manager” at the University of Pretoria (GIBS) and “POPIA for Tech Startups” at the University of Cape Town.
Songezo has held significant roles in the public sector, most notably at the Competition Commission of South Africa, where he has made invaluable contributions. His leadership in various divisions, including Policy and Research, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Legal Services, has been instrumental in shaping the Commission’s strategies and outcomes. He has led high-profile cases and inquiries, including the Media and Digital Platforms Market Inquiry, where he analysed the impact of digital media on traditional broadcasting. Songezo also played a pivotal role in stakeholder engagement, media relations, and the development of strategic policies for the Commission.
Beyond his work in the public sector, Songezo’s expertise extends to thought leadership, where he has contributed as a talk radio host at SAfm, discussing legal and policy issues. As a consultant at AfrikaneyeZ Holdings, he provides expert advice on corporate conferencing, stakeholder mapping, media strategy, and marketing campaigns. His experience with the World Bank Group as a legal consultant and his role as a visiting scholar at various international institutions further highlight his global perspective and ability to influence in diverse settings.
