MEET Gabi Magomola

Mr. Magomola is a respected business leader with extensive corporate finance; banking and general management experience acquired over thirty (30) years in various countries.

He is chairman of Thamaga Holdings and is director and chairman of Audit Committee of Global Asset Management (listed on JSE). His formal qualifications include a B.Comm (Accounting) from University of South Africa (UNISA) and a Masters of Business Administration (International Finance) from Ball State University in the US. During his tenure as Divisional Director at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he completed a Summer Program in Management of Research, Development and Technology-based Innovation. He also completed the Singapore-Commonwealth Programme for Chief Executives at the National University of Singapore Graduate School of Business.

Mr. Magomola has had a distinguished business career both in South Africa and the United States where he lived for several years. Shortly after his release from Robben Island where he was detained as a political prisoner for six years, Mr. Magomola was awarded a Fullbright-Hayes Fellowship to study business in America. He studied successfully for an MBA and completed a two-year internship as a Financial Analyst with a major US cooperation and later joined Citibank. Upon his return to South Africa in mid 80’s, he played a major role in business initiatives that later gave birth to what is today known as Black Economic Empowerment. His professional experiences include heading African Bank and chairing FABCOS, a coalition of Black business organizations in various industry sectors.
